If you’re a race director and don’t already use Google Earth Pro to map out your courses and venues, you should. Google Earth Pro is an amazingly powerful, free piece of software from Google. It’s essentially an über souped up version of Google Maps, but that’s not even a fair description. In Google Earth Pro you can view all satellite …
The Starbucks Secret
Have to ever walked up to a Starbucks hoping to grab a quick cup of coffee, only to find a long line waiting for you? Pro tip: order from the mobile app. When you order from the mobile app, your order prints out from a little receipt printer behind the counter and someone will usually pull the order right off …
Family First
I’ve always been a head-down-get-the-shit-done kind of guy when work needs to happen. When deadlines loom, I’ll pull an all day or all night, or all day and night marathon to make sure everything is done on deadline. Working these intense sessions usually meant paying less attention to everything else in my life. That’s a lot harder to do when …
Finding a new, new normal
After my wife and I had our first child it was an adjustment to life with a little one around the house. Our day jobs stayed the same, and just about everything else did too, except for one big change: a kid. We suddenly had to worry about feeding times, diaper changes, nap times, and car seats. And a lot …
This Half Is So Easy
Here’s to hoping that race directing an Ironman 70.3 event is as “easy” as competing in a an Ironman 70.3 event. Photo credit: Dan Gross, IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur D’Alene.
Do Not Disturb
For the last 12 weeks it’s been a challenge working from home. I work from a home office, and my wife, Laura, has been home on maternity leave, along with our newborn daughter, Penelope. I’m lucky to have the flexibility and freedom that working from home affords, but over the last three months there hasn’t been much working. It has …
Ironman Coeur d’Alene: Race Day
Call time for our staff on race day on Sunday was 4:00 am for a 6:00am race start. The entire crew worked their butts off straight until after 8:00 pm, and we had a great event. I walked over 31,000 steps (nearly 13 miles), loaded and unloaded trash from a 24′ box truck, pulled course signs, and so much more …
Can’t Hurt Me
Most of us have a pretty damn good life, but not all of us. Some of us have “average” lives, with a spouse, 2.2 kids, a house, a dog. Some of us have all we could ever want; a giant house, all the money we need, “everything”. Some of us have shitty lives; not much food, a bad family environment, …

Ironman 70.3 Coeur d’Alene day 2
Today was as full day of bag stuffing, site set up, and packet pick up.
